Burnt Mill Academy Trust

About the Trust

Burnt Mill Academy Trust (BMAT) was established 1 August 2013 and is a small co-operative trust in the South East of England.

Five schools are located in Harlow, a very exciting town to work, with affordable property and that can be reached from London by car/train in less than 30 minutes. All schools are wedded to the co-operative values of self-help, self-responsibility, equality, democracy, equity and solidarity and are happy and exciting places to work.

One of the original New Towns, designed by world-renowned architect Sir Frederick Gibberd, Harlow is a vibrant community with many attractions to appeal to visitors and residents.

The town’s attractions and amenities include the town park, The Playhouse Theatre, shopping centres, museum, music venues, and leisure and cultural activities, nature reserves and a multiplex cinema.

Two schools are located in Stansted Mountfitchet, a village in northwest Essex near the Hertfordshire border and two miles from Stansted Airport. Acclaimed local attractions include the House on the Hill Toy Museum, Mountfitchet Castle and Norman Village of 1066.

In September 2014, Teaching School Alliance status was achieved as part of the West Essex Teaching School Alliance (WETSA).

On 1st November 2017 Epping St John's, in Epping, Essex, officially joined BMAT. Epping boasts a station on the London Underground Central Line, and is a short drive from the M25.
