Train to Teach Opportunities

A unique opportunity is being offered to those keen to pursue a career in teaching.

The Burnt Mill Academy Trust (BMAT) Teaching School is holding a series of open events to promote the opportunities available to train to teach within its primary and secondary schools.

With schools in Harlow, Epping and Stansted in Essex and Newham in London, the Trust can give trainee teachers access to a wide variety of training and teaching experiences.

Interested candidates are invited to attend the open mornings and evenings to discover more about the Trust and the training pathways available in all subjects.

They will also get to watch outstanding teachers in action in a live classroom setting – with a recent group watching BMAT CEO Helena Mills CBE teach.

The Trust has 42 trainee places available for Reception up to Key Stage 5.

Donna Walsh, director of Teaching School, said: “We are offering a range of routes into teaching, which can all be completed inhouse with our Trust schools.

“We are looking for enthusiastic, hardworking, positive, creative people keen to join the teaching profession. They could be university students or those looking for a career change. It would be ideal if they have had experience within a school setting already.

“We are a growing multi academy trust able to offer a variety of placements and our trainees get to work together inhouse on our training programme.

“Our Teaching School offers training for recently qualified teachers, aspiring middle leaders, aspiring senior leaders and aspiring headteachers. As Burnt Mill Academy is an outstanding school, we are a designated Teaching School with teaching at the heart of what we do. From the CEO to the newest trainee, everyone teaches our children. That’s how it should be.”

The Trust is offering the Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

Candidates must have a degree, a C grade or above in English and maths, plus a C grade or above in science if looking to work within a primary school. They will also have to pass a basic skills test in literacy and numeracy before being put forward for an interview and giving a 30-minute lesson to demonstrate their potential in front of a class.
