Executive Principal to take on marathon
An education leader who is training for the London Marathon is on a mission to raise funds for the homeless – after bursting through all his targets already.
Executive principal Allan Osborne, leader of the west Essex hub of the Burnt Mill Academy Trust, is tackling the mammoth event next year.
It will be the second time Mr Osborne has taken on the marathon, completing it for the first time in 2012 after getting caught up in Olympic fever.
This time, he is well ahead of schedule with his training as well as his fundraising – hitting his target of collecting £2,000 within a week of launching his campaign.
Mr Osborne, who runs every day as a way of unwinding from work, is up to 10k in his training schedule.
He said: “After completing my first marathon, I felt I had made a massive difference in the world. I felt absolutely exhilarated.
“It is the best day out; I go as a spectator and it’s so humbling to watch.
“It has taken me this long to forget the pain and do it again, though!”
Mr Osborne, who is also executive headteacher at Epping St John’s School in Epping, is raising funds for Crisis, a charity the school also supports.
He said: “I want to raise as much money as I can as the charity means a lot to my students and colleagues. Within a week of my Just Giving page going live, I had hit my fundraising target.”
